Churches historically have laid the dead to rest with reverence and care in special places set apart in church yards and in cathedrals. Today, in keeping with this tradition, many churches have established columbariums for the care and safekeeping of cremated remains. The name columbarium is derived from the Latin word "columba" or "dovecote", the dove being the symbol of God's spirit and peace. First Presbyterian Church has added another dimension to its ministry in offering space within the church for a Columbarium, Memorial Wall, and Meditation Room. In 2009, our church installed both a columbarium and a memorial wall to honor deceased church members, relatives and those who have been connected with our church. The 64 unit Columbarium has been designed to accommodate cremated remains in urns. Niche to hold 1 urn - $800.00 Niche to hold 2 urn - $1,100.00
The Memorial Wall, has been designed to accommodate 70 plaques which honor the memory of deceased loved ones. Plaques may be purchased for $275.00 each. Plaques can also be purchased for future placement on the wall.
The purchase of a niche or memorial plaque is limited to church members, relatives of members, pastors and spouses, and/or anyone else who in any way is or has been connected to our church.
The meditation room is available for personal meditation. It is open to anyone during church office hours on weekdays, and on Sunday mornings. Come meditate and relax in our room.
