First Presbyterian Church has added another dimension to its ministry in offering space within the church for a Columbarium, Memorial Wall, and Meditation Room.
Churches historically have laid the dead to rest with reverence and care in special places set apart in church yards and in cathedrals. Today, in keeping with this tradition, many churches have established Columbariums for the care and safekeeping of cremated remains. The name Columbarium is derived from the Latin word "columba" or "dovecote", the dove being the symbol of God's spirit and peace.
In 2009, our church installed both a columbarium and a memorial wall to honor deceased church members, relatives and those who have been connected with our church.
In 2016, our church created and designed a new meditation room for anyone to meditate in.
Purchase of a niche or memorial plaque is limited to church members, relatives of members, pastors and spouses, and/or anyone else who in any way is or has been connected to our church.
Applications are available in the church office or can be requested by snail mail, telephone, or e-mail.
